How much fat can liposuction remove?
Liposuction can safely remove six to eight pounds of excess fat during a single treatment. That's why liposuction isn't considered a weight loss treatment; rather, it's a means of toning your body after you have achieved and maintained your target body weight.
Is the removed fat gone for good?
Yes, but that doesn't mean you can't gain weight if you don't make an effort to lead a healthy lifestyle after your treatment. Fatty tissue in other parts of your body that were not treated during liposuction can still increase in size. This is why it is a good idea to spend time maintaining your desired weight before undergoing liposuction.
Should I get liposuction or a tummy tuck?
If you have unwanted fat deposits and good skin elasticity, you may be able to reach your goals with liposuction alone. However, if you have undesired fat and severely stretched skin, you are probably a better candidate for a tummy tuck. A tummy tuck is also recommended if you have separated abdominal muscles (a common side effect of pregnancy) that are contributing to a lack of definition in your midsection.
