Hyperhidrosis Treatment
What Is Hyperhidrosis? Understanding the Two Types
Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition that causes excessive sweating. Sweating helps you regulate your body temperature, but hyperhidrosis patients sweat more than the necessary amount. There are two types of hyperhidrosis:
Primary Hyperhidrosis
Primary hyperhidrosis has no known medical cause. In patients with primary hyperhidrosis, excessive sweating occurs independently of any additional medical conditions they may have.
Secondary Hyperhidrosis
Secondary hyperhidrosis is caused by an underlying medical condition, such as diabetes, hyperthyroidism, or menopause. Treating these conditions may help relieve hyperhidrosis.
Take a Closer Look at PrecisionTx Before and After Transformations
PrecisionTx is a one-time treatment for hyperhidrosis. It uses a 1440-nanometer wavelength laser and adds a photomechanical effect to the wavelength in order to precisely target and remove excess axillary sweat glands.
The laser works under the skin through a small cannula, allowing Dr. Murphy to tackle sweat at the source. PrecisionTx produces minimal discomfort and can be performed with just local anesthesia. It takes only one hour, has a very brief recovery period, and offers long-term relief from hyperhidrosis.

Dr. Murphy is very knowledgeable, personable, funny, and cares about your needs. Great surgeon. Highly recommend!! Not to mention his wife and staff are simply amazing as well!!
View on GoogleDr Murphy has wonderful bedside manor. He is able to present things honestly but in a way that doesn't feel judgmental. He actually declined to do a procedure on me because he felt it would not give good results. I appreciated his kindness and am very pleased with the results of my procedure.

Does BOTOX Treatment for Hyperhidrosis Have Any Side Effects?
Side effects are rare when receiving BOTOX to treat hyperhidrosis. However, our practice values transparency about the procedures we offer. Double-blind studies found that 3–10% of adult patients reported the following side effects after BOTOX injections:
- Pain or Bruising
- Infection
- Flu-Like Symptoms
- Headache
- Itching
- Anxiety
Keep in mind that these side effects are temporary and usually diminish within weeks of treatment. The best way to reduce these risks is by receiving treatment from a skilled plastic surgeon, like our board-certified doctor, James E. Murphy. You should also confirm with a medical provider that you have primary hyperhidrosis rather than secondary hyperhidrosis, which may be better treated by targeting the root condition that causes excessive sweat gland production.
