Minimally Invasive PDO Thread Lifts

In the past, the only way to truly address sagging or loose skin on the face, such as jowls and drooping cheeks, was facelift surgery.

At Murphy Plastic Surgery & Medical Spa, we offer thread lift procedures that can rejuvenate the face and neck without large incisions and invasive surgery.

So why should you choose a PDO thread lift instead of plastic surgery at our Reno, NV,  practice?

We understand that many of our patients are hesitant to consider surgery due to the cost and lengthy downtime it requires, but this doesn't mean they shouldn't get to look their best. Thanks to advances in modern dermatology, there is now a minimally invasive procedure that utilizes PDO threads to "lift" problem areas.

At Murphy Plastic Surgery & Medical Spa, our plastic surgeon, James Murphy, M.D., uses NovaThread absorbable PDO threads to lift and tighten loose skin on the face, creating a more youthful aesthetic and boosting patients' confidence. We are proud to offer Potenza™, injectable treatments, and a range of other non-surgical options to further refine your results.

What Are the Benefits of the Treatment?

Reduced Recovery Time

Recovery after a thread lift is much easier than recovery from a facelift. Patients only require local anesthesia, they do not require supervision afterward, and can return home immediately after the procedure.

Lower Risks

Thread lifts are minimally invasive and very low-risk. While some swelling may occur, there is virtually no risk of scarring or other complications. Our team uses premium PDO threads to ensure beautiful results.

More Affordable

Since this treatment is less involved than facelift surgery, it is also much more affordable. If you are a good candidate for PDO threads, our team can help you rejuvenate your appearance at a lower price.

How Do PDO Threads Work?

A PDO thread lift performed at our medical spa in Reno, NV, is a minimally invasive procedure for the face, neck, and jowls, where a needle passes polydioxanone (PDO) threads under the skin. After they are gently inserted, these temporary sutures produce a subtle lift to the treatment area by pulling the skin back slightly, which tightens the skin around the PDO threads.

NovaThreads' patented threads are made of a clear, biocompatible material called polydioxanone (PDO). This polymer has been safely used in medicine for years in applications ranging from suturing wounds closed to cardiothoracic surgery.

PDO stimulates collagen production without creating scar tissue. It is naturally absorbed by the body within four to six months after insertion. The threads come in a variety of styles in order to address each patient's unique concerns. An added benefit of NovaThread absorbable PDO threads is that they combat aging by provoking the body's healing response. This boosts collagen in the treated area, supporting growth factors that have a positive impact on the skin's texture, appearance, and overall condition.

Which areas of concern can be treated?

The Face

PDO threads can be used to improve folds around the nose and mouth, lift sagging cheeks, and redefine the jaw.

The Neck

The neck is notoriously hard to treat but we can reduce thin skin and loose tissue in this area.

Décolletage

Décolletage

Like the neck, the skin on the chest can become thin and lined. PDO threads can restore a more youthful look.

A Quick & Easy Recovery

The primary advantage of a PDO thread lift is the reduced recovery time. A facelift is a fairly intensive plastic surgery, requiring several incisions and general anesthesia during the surgical procedure, as well as caretaker assistance for at least 72 hours after treatment. Patients often choose to stay home and focus on healing for a week or longer.

In contrast, a PDO thread lift is performed under local anesthesia, so there will be no residual grogginess or other effects of sedation after your visit with our plastic surgeon. You may choose to take the rest of the day off after having PDO thread lift treatment with our plastic surgeon. You can, however, comfortably return to work or other activities immediately afterward if you have a busy, demanding career, or children at home.

Little to No Downtime

More Than Just a Plastic Surgeon

James E. Murphy, M.D. is one of a kind. He made me feel comfortable and was very professional. The entire staff is heartwarming and welcoming. After surgery they continuously followed up with me and made sure I had no concerns or questions. I appreciate their care. Karla A.

What Are the Risks?

Under the supervision of an experienced and highly trained plastic surgeon like James E. Murphy, M.D., PDO thread lifts are inherently low risk because of the technique's minimally invasive nature. Most notably, the risks of scarring, bleeding, and severe bruising are negligible. In the rare case of irritation, infection, or visible sutures under the skin, the threads can simply be removed in order to resolve these concerns.

If you choose to undergo thread lift treatment, there are a few minor precautions to take while healing. It is important not to rub your face too vigorously for at least a week while performing your daily skincare routine. No strenuous exercise for at least 48 hours. No spa's, hot tubs, swimming pools or anywhere you have the possibility of introducing bacteria to you skin at the insertion sites of the threads. You should also avoid sleeping directly on your face to protect your results.

Get the Most out of Your PDO Thread Lift Treatment

At our Reno, NV, plastic surgery office and medical spa, you can combine a thread lift with a number of non-surgical treatment options such as  BOTOX® Cosmetic, and JUVÉDERM® dermal filler. Our plastic surgeon, James E. Murphy, M.D., offers all of these popular options so you can leave your appointment looking and feeling fully rejuvenated.
