Tumescent Liposuction for Effective Contouring
Dr. Murphy offers traditional tumescent liposuction in a surgery center. This technique injects a solution into the treatment area causing the fat cells to swell and firm. Dr. Murphy can then easily remove the fat with a cannula.
SAFELipo for a Smoother Result
The SAFELipo technique uses a specialized cannula to break up and remove fat one layer at a time. With this gradual removal of fat, patients often experience a sleeker result with less dimpling and contour irregularities.
Smart Lipo to Tighten Skin
Smart lipo incorporates the use of laser energy to melt fat cells and remove them without harming surrounding tissues. The laser is safe and precise, keeping swelling, bleeding, and bruising to a minimum. Smart lipo also tightens the skin as it eliminates fat cells, lending to a sleeker result.
What to Expect at Your Liposuction Appointment
The length of your procedure will depend on the size of the treatment area or areas. A small region like the neck can take as little as 30 minutes, while a more extensive region like the abdomen can take one to two hours.
Administer Anesthesia
Dr. James E. Murphy begins by administering local anesthesia, though this will depend on the complexity of your case, the size of your treatment area, and the type of liposuction being used. Our Reno team will carefully monitor your vitals to ensure you are comfortable and safe throughout your procedure.
Isolate Fat Cells
Once you are comfortable, Dr. Murphy will inject a specialized solution consisting of saline to break down fat cells and lidocaine to numb the area. The solution will also help constrict blood vessels and isolate the fat cells in the treatment area.
Remove Excess Tissue
Dr. Murphy will make small incisions in the area and insert a narrow suction device called a cannula. The cannula is guided around the treatment site to gently suction out unwanted fat cells.
Finishing Touches
When your procedure is complete, Dr. Murphy will bandage the incisions and place a special recovery garment over the area to promote circulation and enhance your final results.
Recovery
Our Lake Tahoe and Reno patients typically undergo lipo on an outpatient basis, meaning they are released later that day to recover at home. You should expect some minor swelling and bruising, but they are temporary side effects and usually start to subside after about a week. Some patients may have residual swelling and bruising for up to a month. Most patients can return to work around five to seven days after their surgery but should refrain from strenuous physical activity for at least a month or until Dr. Murphy clears them. You should be completely healed in a few months.
