Brighten Your Appearance with a Brow Lift*
For patients who are dissatisfied with a sagging or wrinkled brow, Dr. James Murphy performs brow lift surgery at our Reno, NV, plastic surgery office. A brow lift can help reduce the wrinkles on your forehead and around the bridge of your nose. The procedure smooths out frown lines between eyebrows and can raise sagging tissue, providing a more youthful, alert appearance. What Brow Lift Surgery Can Address
Brow lift surgery is an excellent option if you have frown lines or look tired or angry because the middle of your forehead sags. Sometimes, the outer edges of the brow can sag, making a person look sad rather than angry, and the procedure can alleviate this problem as well.

A brow lift will not get rid of crow’s feet or improve the appearance of baggy eyelids. If you are experiencing these issues, you may want to consider undergoing blepharoplasty at the same time as your brow lift. You may also consider combining your brow lift with a facelift for a more dramatic enhancement.

Candidates for Brow Lift Surgery
Candidates for brow lift surgery should be in good overall health and have realistic goals for the surgery. Only James E. Murphy, M.D. can determine whether you will be a good candidate for the surgery, but generally, if you meet these guidelines, you will be considered eligible. If you are not a candidate for surgery, we may recommend a non-surgical treatment such as cosmetic injections with BOTOX®.
Preparing for Your Procedure
The doctor will provide you with a set of instructions to follow before your procedure, including a few general guidelines:
- If you smoke, you will need to quit. Smoking slows down the healing process, and the doctor recommends quitting at least a month before your surgery.
- You will need to avoid anti-inflammatory drugs like aspirin and ibuprofen, because they can increase bleeding.
- You will need to arrange for a responsible adult to drive you to and from your surgery, and to stay with you for at least the first night after surgery.
- Have any prescriptions from the doctor filled before your surgery.
The Brow Lift Procedure
The most common type of brow lift procedure is an open brow lift. For this procedure, the doctor will make an incision across the top of your head, from ear to ear. He will then lift the skin of the forehead, so he can make adjustments to the muscles underneath. Generally, the incision is closed with sutures. The scar from surgery will be hidden underneath your hair.
Increasing in popularity, the endoscopic brow lift offers the doctor another method of performing the surgery. For this procedure, the doctor uses a thin tube with a light and camera on the end, called an endoscope. He inserts the endoscope through small incisions and adjusts the muscles under the skin to eliminate wrinkles on your forehead.
After the Surgery
After your surgery, the doctor will provide detailed instructions for you to follow during your recovery. This will include directions on caring for the incision site, symptoms and complications to watch for, when to take medications, and when to come in for a follow-up visit. You will need to keep your head elevated during sleep for the first week or so, and should have ice packs on hand to help reduce swelling. Most patients can return to work after about a week, and normal activities a week or two after that, but it is important to refrain from heavy lifting during this time.
